Twirl On 'Em

Earlier this week, I received a very mean and racist comment on my blog.

Many of you expressed sympathy & encouragement to which I am forever thankful. And unsurprisingly, many of you said you have received similar comments.

While the email was mean, I didn’t linger on it for very long.  In fact, I spoke to a friend later that day and she asked me how I was going. I had had a great day!

My friend and many of you were surprised by how unbothered I was. I decided to pen a post about how I got over it, very quickly.

Substance

I love learning and welcome constructive criticism. We can all learn something new and should lean on experts whenever possible.

The email I received had nothing of importance. I could take nothing away from it that would help me improve. So I ignored it.

Consider the source

Do you know the person? Do you value this person’s opinion? Do they offer you anything of value?

To keep is short: don’t let the opinions of people who are not important to you bother you.

In my case, it was an anonymous email written by someone with poor grammar. #nonfactor

Have Thick Skin

When I decided to start blogging, I knew that presenting myself publicly meant that I would receive both negative and positive comments.

Everything ain’t for everybody and critics are natural.

I don’t expect everyone to love everything that I do. And I am ok with that. The sooner you realize that, the happier you will be. You can’t make everyone happy, you are not a Chanel bag :)

Focus on the Positive

I ignored that email because I decided to focus on the things that are going great in my life.

I just started this blog. I am working on my interior design business. I am doing things that I have talked about doing for a long time and it feels great.

Spending time dwelling on the comments of one person, will take time away for the things that I love to do. I rather focus on my goals than on a mean stranger.

Bag: Givenchy Antigona [here]. This one is amazing.

Now that I have my first official hater, I can now say that I am Beyonce. Now to look for my Kelly, Michelle, Latavia, Latoya, and no-suitcase Farah :)
