Why and How You Should Clean Your Designer Handbag

Just like you should wash new sheets before you put them on your bed, you should always clean & condition your new-to-you preloved bag when you receive it.

Leather absorbs dirt and dust and most people never ever clean their bags. You don’t want second hand dust, dirt and grime!

When I received this bag it looked perfect.

Cleaning it revealed another story.

Below are steps on how to clean your new-to-you pre-loved luxury handbags.

SUPPLY LIST:

Leather Cleaner ( set here, cleaner here, here)

Leather Conditioner ( set here, here)

Leather Protectant (this or this )

Clean White Cloth

Never use Clorox or alcohol wipes or vinegar on leather bags.

TEST IN HIDDEN AREA
Test first in hidden area (I usually test on a bottom back corner) and allow the formula to dry naturally in a cool, clean location away from sunlight and heat. If you do not find excess color rub off or discoloration in leather, then you can safely use the product on your handbag.

PREPARE SPACE
Your workspace should not be in direct sunlight. Lay down a cloth or towel on the floor or table in an outdoor or well-ventilated environment. I typically clean my bags on my bathroom counter.

Apply cleanser onto a clean cloth and apply on the bag.

Rub gently in circular motion. You should see dirt and grime lifting on the cloth.

AIR DRY
Wipe off any excess cleaner and let your bag dry naturally.

When the bag is completely dry, apply a leather conditioner. The conditioner will help keep the leather supple and flexible. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP! You have striped the leather and need to re-moisturize it.

When completely dry, apple a leather protector which will protect your bag from water, weather, dirt & mud.
